Individual Vocal Instruction
Studio Guidelines and Objectives
Overview
Since every student comes to the study of singing with different strengths and goals,
personal objectives will be geared towards the individual student. Regardless of goals set
for each student, all will be instructed in proper breathing techniques as a foundation of
good singing, and in the use of proper vocal technique. This will include discussion of
the anatomy of the vocal apparatus, addressing proper terminology and function of the
various parts. We will also discuss care of the voice, and proper vocal health and
hygiene.
Lessons
You are entitled to twelve half-hour lessons per semester. Please be prompt to your
lesson time. Any time missed due to lateness will not be made up. Lateness in
excess of 10 minutes will be considered an absence. You are encouraged to
attend all of your lessons, as you would any other class. Please note that a passing grade
cannot be given if you have missed more than four lessons in a semester. Lessons missed
by the student will not be made up, nor will a refund be given for the missed lesson.
If
you know in advance that you have a conflict with a scheduled lesson, please try to find a
classmate to switch with. If you absolutely must miss a lesson, please provide at least 24 hours
notice. I can be contacted by phone or electronic mail, using the information on the
Contact Info page. Make-up lessons for those you have missed can
be scheduled, but will incur an additional lesson fee per made-up lesson. I will honor all
lessons that are missed due to my absence.
Students are responsible for procuring any repertoire that is assigned in lessons, and
should bring one extra copy to the lesson for the instructor. If you need information on
where to go to find your music, just ask.
Practice
You are encouraged to seek practice time outside of the studio. My recommendation for
those serious about their vocal study is at least one half-hour each day. That aside,
please note that, even though I do encourage practice, I know that making the time to do
so is not always possible, as other studies take precedence. Although it would be helpful
to both of us if some practice took place, you will not be penalized for lack of practice.
Fees
The cost of private instruction is $30 per lesson. Payment should be
made in full at the beginning of the semester, made payable to me. If
it is necessary, payment can be made in two installments -- one at the
beginning at the semester, and one at the mid-point. Payment cannot
be made at the conclusion of the semester.
Payment may also be made through PayPal, a secure web-based payment
service that allows you to use a major credit card or electronic funds
transfer (EFT). For more information on PayPal, visit the Make
a Payment page.
